SNC Direct

Companies often away with such dubious claims or lying, how much of an ingredient in a product, because the supplement industry is not regulated by the government. However, while the product itself is not regulated, there is some regulation about the information that appears on a label.

For example, companies are not allowed to make any claims about products preventing or curing diseases. Instead, they have so-called "structure / function" claims.

A structure / function claim would be something like a calcium-label stating that his "Calcium is essential for strong bones." The label should not say, "This addition helps to prevent osteoporosis." Any supplement that has to diseases such as osteoporosis, a statement such as:

"This supplement is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease." These statements are required, because they say, rules state that only make claims about a drug prevention or treatment of disease.
